Food Makes Me Happy
I am a scruffy cook and a messy cook but I don’t lose any sleep over my lack of Masterchef-style presentation skills because damn I cook good. And it’s not just cooking that makes me happy. EATING makes me happy. I love food. A lot.
I Love To Cook
Which is why this page is here. Over the years and years and years of blissful hours in the kitchen I have created or improved some great recipes that I have never written down and feel it is time to do that. Slowly. When I’m not too busy eating.
Making dinner every evening is my happy place. It’s how I unwind and it’s another way to be creative. I am incredibly fussy about flavour so all my recipes are delicious. Some are tweaks I’ve made to well-known recipes. Some come out of my own head. Most of the time I am quite vague with ingredients because a little bit this way or that doesn’t really matter to me. A bunch is a bunch, a pinch is whatever you want a pinch to be. When it counts, I mention it. Otherwise, chill out. I use fresh herbs wherever possible because it’s a tasty way to add nutrients to food. I won’t even look at a “TV dinner”.
Because of my love of food I have a self-promoting project which I call Mystery Lunch. It’s my way of meeting creatives at advertising agencies and getting them to see my work as a commercials director and hopefully brief me on future projects.
Boyfriend is an Ironman athlete so we often go through weird racing meal phases for training so I have to make “no carbs” interesting and I have to make “nothing but meat and salad” interesting. Boy, can I make a green salad one thousand different ways.
Every year we create Christmas gifts for all our friends, family, and work colleagues. It’s a million times better than shopping. One year – I think it was 2009 – Boyfriend and I made a recipe book. At the time we were both vegetarian so it was a collection of vegetarian recipes and we PHOTOCOPIED the books as a throwback to the days when that was the norm. People still talk about that book.
