Then there was that time that we hired a convertible Mustang and drove from Las Vegas to The Grand Canyon to Los Angeles. And we also stopped in at Sequoia National Park to check out the giant redwood trees. It wasn’t exactly on the way. It was a three hour detour to the main gate. We got there at sunset, expecting to have just enough time to set up our $20 tent and cook something for our supper. BUT. The camp ground was actually 30 miles from the main gate. We did that drive in the dark at high speed and it was glorious. Only when we left – in the daylight – did we see there were steep drops on the sides of the road. We thought it was trees next to us as we raced along but no. It was tree TOPS.
We were almost the irresponsible-tourists-dead-in-tragic-car-crash cliche.
Travelzilla was thrilled that he was taller than some of the redwoods.

See how tiny I am next to these amazing trees?

And then we found this terrifying spider when we packed up our campsite. Yes, it did come out of the tent. Yes, it is as large as a R5 coin.
