I was commissioned to make this set of twelve small bowls for a black-and-white themed party. The design was left up to me, and I suggested a line of trees. And so began the journey of carving a forest into each bowl, firing them, and then painting black into the carved lines.
I always make one extra bowl in a set like this to safeguard against some kind of firing disaster. Cracks or ugly warping or even EXPLOSIONS. One teeny tiny crack in one of them is all there was so the happy customer received a bonus bowl.
