If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It, Right?
I dabble in all kinds of art. Painting, ceramics, illustration, crochet, writing, photography, film, and gardening is an art form too. I obsessively create all the time.
I feel like showing some of it off.
I Am A Maker
I love painting with oil paints and acrylics (watercolours continue to confound me). I love drawing and scratching and working with clay. I love crochet because you can make anything – a house even – and don’t really need a pattern. I love making gardens beautiful. And I love to write. As a youngster I thought that’s what I’d be “when I grew up”. I used to write incredible poetry before I became epileptic at 25 – then it all fell out of my head. I used to photocopy hundreds of these poems with little illustrations and hand them out to strangers anywhere I went. I even stood at robots.
When I left school in 1996 I started a mural painting business with two friends. We painted all the popular nightclubs at the time: ESP, GASS, Nexus, The Lab, Picasso’s, and a bunch of restaurants too. Eventually we parted ways and I carried on painting murals for a couple of years until the film industry rescued me from the dawn of what I call “The Ivy Phase”. I painted a lot of ivy around pool areas in huge houses in areas like Dainfern, all the while thinking “why don’t you just plant some damn ivy?” I still love painting walls. But flat color. Yum.
