This was a dream job. A week of shooting with a small crew in the dunes of the Namibian desert with the Toyota Dakar racing team and a really lovely bunch of creatives.
The landscape is beautiful but also unpredictable – on most days we couldn’t start shooting until about 10am because of a thick mad mist. I regret that I never got a ride in the Dakar Hilux but I did get to ramp through the biggest flipping hole in the sand dunes I’ve ever seen whilst hanging onto the back of a Land Cruiser. The hole is affectionately known as “Die Groot Gat”. I was airborne for a moment as we raced through it as fast as Superman. Maybe faster.
